You see it all began a little more than (3) three years ago. As I sat in my Sunday School class, (which at the time was an all women’s bible study). I listened to a lady share very proudly a praise report about her 8 year old grand-daughter. The lady was talking about how she has been bringing her grand-daughter to church every Sunday every since she was very young. Today she is being baptized; I thought wow what praise! As I listened to this story I thought about how I too could do this with my grand-daughter, who at the time was not quite one year old.
I shared the story with my daughter (Katie), she also thought this was a great idea. Now, for almost (3) three years I have been bringing my grand-daughter (Paris Jade) to church. I call her BSBC youngest evangelist… as she walks around the church grounds with her Bible in hand ready to read John 3:16 to anyone who will listen.
I have recently signed her up for a singing program for four year olds on Wednesday nights. Her mother drops her off in the late afternoon so that she can visit and have dinner with us. We then rush off to church so she can learn to praise God through songs of worship with other four year olds.
This past Wednesday night I picked Paris up from her class as usual. As we drove to the meeting spot where I hand her over to her mom we sang the song her class is practicing for a recital for the parents in a couple of weeks. We arrived at our destination… her mom was in a hurry, as she had been to the grocery store and needed to hurry home to get her groceries put away in the refrigerator and freezer.
As I was driving down the street, my mind was focused on my next agenda, my phone rang. I answered it, and much to my surprise it was the very familiar little voice of my little Ms Paris. Paris indicated that with all the hurrying, she did not get to give me a hug… so I told her wrap your left arm around herself, then wrap your right arm around herself and squeeze and that is a hug from her Nana. Then, there was silence…. What took place was she then laid the phone down and did just as I asked, then replied OK. Typical of a four (4) year old she moved right on into singing…. We both sang together ba ba black sheep….
This was not just an ordinary Wednesday night, but one that I will keep in my memory bank for days to come.
Not Just an Ordinary Wednesday
